Desperately seeking humor

There’s nothing funny about sitting in the defendant’s chair. But in times of extreme emotional duress, sometimes humor can alleviate the pain. Here’s one of those moments during my trial:

Attorney Steve Fishman cross-examining a witness said, “Mr. Fieger’s a complicated man?” The witness responded, “Yes, he is.” Gerry Spence, from the counsel table, responded, “We’ll stipulate!“
